And then there were four…

You may have never met them. You never saw them in the spot light. And yet, they are all that remain.

Four people, left in a place that once bustled with a hopeful energy and anticipation of change. A place that is now quiet. Only remnants of the group that surrounded them only a week ago. Limited communication to the outside world, speculation of what the next hour, the next day will bring for them. Constantly being watched by men with only one intention…. Men who know not of their families, know not of their friends, know not of their bravery….

You may mock them, you may pray for them. You may sit from the warmth and comfort of your home and judge them. But you do not know them. You do not know their fears or their hopes. You may think you understand why they are doing this, but many have no clue…..

They must feel as though the world has forgotten about them. WE HAVE NOT. We sit, and wait, and hold our breath. How will this turn out for them? Will they join the martyr ranks, or walk out only to be arrested? So, we pray. And we speculate. And we discuss. And some insult. Some lash out.

And the four, they are sending final messages of goodbye, and they are having a final dance. They are mourning a loss. They are praying for friends. And they are begging and pleading with anyone and everyone to stand. To be there. To bear witness. And they are waiting… for the men who watch them to decide their fate.

They came for a just cause. They came to support and to stand. They came to be a voice of truth in a world of ignorant ranting. And they are people. And this is not something to mock. You can disagree, you can think this foolishness. But you can NOT deny the bravery. You can NOT deny the dignity. You can NOT deny that they are there and we are not.

For, they are all that remain….
